Russia refuses to supply fighter jet engines to Pakistan (X)
Russia refuses to supply fighter jet engines to Pakistan: Russia has denied reports that Moscow has decided to supply Pakistan with RD-93MA engines for its JF-17 Thunder Block-3 fighter jets. A WION report quoted a Russian source as saying that there was no such confirmation. The source added that some people are trying to create a rift in the strong and long-standing cooperation between the two countries.
An earlier IDRW report claimed that Russia had decided to supply engines to Pakistan for use in the JF-17 fighter jet. JF-17 is a 4.5-generation stealth fighter jet, which Pakistan and China together form. It is the most powerful aircraft in Pakistan's Air Force and is in more than 150 units of service. The aircraft has Russia's RD-93MA engine, which makes Russia's role important in the modernization of the Pakistani Air Force.
This report comes at a time when preparations are going on for the meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Indo-Russian annual summit is scheduled to be held in December this year, in which Putin will come to India. In this context, this report is considered to be India's concern.
The Congress party on Saturday said that the news of Russia supplying JF-17 engines to Pakistan reflects the failure of the Modi government's diplomacy. Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh questioned why Russia, a trusted ally of India, is providing military assistance to Pakistan.
